Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How far in advance should I book my daughter into Pymble?

A. We suggest that you apply as soon as you know you are interested in sending your daughter to the College. As we offer places based on a receipt of application date, early application is advisable.

Q. My daughter’s birthday falls after the cut-off date of 31 March. What are my options?

A. Parents occasionally request their daughter be placed in the year above her age cohort. We acknowledge the capacity of some students to reach their potential at an earlier age and so consider cases on an individual basis. An assessment is required to be completed the year prior to entry by the appropriate Head of School. In this situation, girls entering Year 7 are encouraged to sit for the ACER Scholarship test that will help indicate the appropriate year level.

Q. When will I learn if my daughter has been offered a place if she is on the waiting list?

A. We usually make second round offers in the year prior to entry; however, as soon as places become available we approach students who are wait-listed and check their interest in taking up a position at Pymble.

Q. Does having a sister at the College or an ex-student linkage give my daughter priority on the waiting list?

A. Having a sister at the College or a mother or grandmother who attended the College will give your daughter priority on the waiting list, but it does not always guarantee a place.

Q. Is there an entrance exam for students?

A. No. We are a non-selective school and therefore do not have an entrance exam. Each student will have an interview with the appropriate Head of School. This gives us the opportunity to meet you and your daughter before commencement. Students whose first language is not English are required to have their readiness for entry into the Junior and Secondary Schools supported by a certificate of their English fluency from the Australian Education Assessment Service - www.aeas.com.au. This certificate must accompany their Application for Enrolment before an interview can be arranged and a definite place offered.  In Year 7, girls who have confirmed positions will sit a placement test prior to their commencement in order to assess which class to place them in. This is NOT an entrance exam, it is simply to place girls in their appropriate Maths and English classes. Girls already at Pymble in Year 6 will also sit the same placement test.

Q. I have a confirmed spot for a particular year but I would like to bring it forward/transfer it?

A. It is not always possible to confirm a transfer of enrolment. If you wish to bring forward/transfer your daughter’s enrolment, please inform the College in writing. We will confirm receipt of the request and whether the transfer is possible. If we are unable to transfer the enrolment your daughter’s name will be put back on the waiting list in order of the application date.

Parents wishing to transfer their daughter’s enrolment at Pymble will be limited to two transfers, after which the non-refundable enrolment fee will apply in order to maintain the confirmed position.

Q. What is the College’s policy on boarding?

A. Girls enrolled as boarders are expected to remain as boarders for the full year unless otherwise specified and agreed to by the Principal. Notice of change from boarding to day status should have at least one (1) term’s notice; otherwise boarding fees in lieu of notice will be charged.
