Texstyle triumph all sewn up

General News, Textiles & Design News

Congratulations to Evangeline Murdoch and Lilian Zhu of Year 12 who have been selected to exhibit their Major Textiles Projects in the Texstyle Exhibition 2013. Texstyle profiles excellence in Textiles and Design from the 2012 Higher School Certificate.

Evangeline used the country as her inspiration and produced apparel items including men’s chinos, tailored jacket, t-shirt and a baby’s christening dress. The garments produced represented a very contemporary take on a traditional theme. All items reflected Evangeline’s strong design aesthetic and outstanding construction skills.

Lilian created a range of garments with an androgynous theme. Her use of challenging fabrics and bespoke techniques resulted in a sophisticated collection of gender neutral garments, the likes of which would not be out of place in Vogue.

Fashion Less Waste Award nomination

Academic News, General News, Textiles & Design News

Pymble Year 10 student, Georgia Fallon, has been selected as a national top 10 finalist for the Australian Museum’s Fashion Less Waste competition, which aims to encourage a more sustainable fashion industry.

The brief was to design and create an outfit that "is made from materials that were originally bought and used for a non-clothing purpose. The use of materials that aren’t curb-side recyclable, or that are notorious for harming animals as litter are also thought of highly."

Georgia’s outfit is an outstanding piece, predominantly made from hand-sewn individual film negatives. Her dress will be paraded in a red carpet show at the Australian Museum later this month.
