New Senior School Centre
Senior School Learning for the 21st Century
"This building has been designed in consultation with our Senior School teachers to produce a purpose-built facility for the unique stage of Senior School learning." - Mrs Vicki Waters, Principal
A new state-of-the-art Senior School Centre dedicated to the unique developmental and educational requirements of students in Years 11 and 12 will be constructed at the College for the commencement of the 2011 school year. The Centre will be located next to the Conde Library (Secondary School library).
The new Senior School Centre has been designed to create a learning environment that creates the opportunity for students in their final years of formal school education to exercise their growing independence and responsibility as they transition to higher education or employment. It will incorporate outstanding educational facilities including 22 flexible, high visibility rooms for single and multiple classes, advanced information technology, 260 seat lecture theatre, circular conference room with video conferencing facilities and an open common area with a coffee shop and space for students and teachers to meet.
'Green' features:
- Mixed-mode airconditioning
- low-energy floor heating in main areas
- movement/daylight sensor-controlled lights
- High performance glazing and high levels of insulation
- Rainwater harvesting for WC flushing and irrigation
- The building has been assessed as achieving 82% savings against baseline energy efficiency requirements of the Building Code of Australia
The design of the building and its proximity to the Conde Library will allow Senior students greater flexibility in utilising College facilities and provides a dedicated precinct for the students where they can work, study, relax and eat.
As students move towards their final years in a school, their teachers become mentors and supporters, rather than instructors, as they work with them to achieve academic success and intellectual growth. Teachers will be based within the building and will be readily accessible to the students with the flexible open space design providing common areas and a coffee shop for students and staff to mix freely and to work together in a comfortable environment.
The Senior School Centre will benefit every girl in her time at the College, and assist her in making the transition to the world beyond. It will ensure that Pymble Ladies' College continues to be one of the very best schools in the world.
