The War Memorial Chapel

Take the virtual tour

Fundraising for the building of the Chapel began in 1929. The Chapel however remained a dream for many years with influences such as the Great Depression and World War II taking priority.

The first Chapel Service was held on 30th April 1956 and the whole College rejoiced in this grand new building. The Chapel is a popular venue for the weddings of ex-students and is used almost every day for the Chapel services for students.

The organ was given to the College on 7th July 1971. The organ is over 100 years old and was originally imported from England from a church in Petersham.

The stained glass windows date from the Rose Window. Next was the 'Getting of Wisdom' window above the communion table. The MacArthur commemorative window was the last of the windows designed and installed by the great stained glass artist, David Saunders.

The side windows (the three trees in memory of the three boarders killed in a plane crash at Young in 1993) and the Jacaranda Window (given by the Ex-Students' Union for the 80th Anniversary of the College in 1996) and the other recent additions (kindly donated by Pymble families), were designed by Pel Fesq who learned her art from David Saunders.
