Pastoral Care

Nurturing girls from dependence to independence

The Pastoral Care Program at Pymble is comprehensive in scope though individual in its delivery, and provides girls with the specific care and attention they require at the various stages of their schooling life.

Pastoral care begins in Preparatory School, where girls across all year levels learn about settling in to College life, making friends, interacting cooperatively with others and living safely. These themes extend into the Junior School Pastoral Care Program where girls also learn about friendships, conflict resolution, problem solving and adjusting to change. Numerous leadership opportunities also stem from the Junior School Pastoral Care Program, giving students the chance to become school leaders, house leaders, library and class leaders, or involved as student representative executives.

In the Middle School, pastoral care focuses on knowing each student and appreciating her as an individual. Leadership is developed and the importance of forming positive relationships is instilled through the teaching of holistic social skills and etiquette. Spirituality and developing a sense of meaning, along with social responsibility and community service, are key elements of the Middle School program. Career education and the development of practical skills, such as time management and goal setting, are introduced to assist girls with the transition to the Upper School.

The Pastoral Care Program in students' final years is largely based on the philosophy of developing resilience in individuals and the self-awareness and assurance to face challenges with maturity and confidence. Girls will gain a greater sense of the importance of commitment, responsibility and self-reflection, understanding the notions of integrity and loyalty and how these may conflict. Additionally, in the Upper School program a strong focus is maintained on the importance of optimism and self-belief, preparing each girl to confidently and successfully take on the challenges of life beyond Pymble.
