Our second program of levels is Independence. This is where the complete focus of swimming is on children learning to swim independently. While mastering this ability, there is a large emphasis placed on the fundamental swimming skills, breath control, kicking, propulsion through the water and floating. Safety will play a huge part in this stream, as we aim to educate our youngsters on the risks and dangers of the aquatic environment, and to ensure that all children have the skills to confidently manage themselves in any situations that may arise.

seahorse   Seahorses

Seahorses have entered the Independence Stream of the program. It’s now time for them to master front and back floats, learn push and glides and streamline floats and further develop breath control and body position in the water. The aim is for complete water independence, beginning with performing safety swims unassisted, and continuing to develop the confidence to push off the teaching ledge and swim unaided to the teacher. Seahorses will practise a lot of kicking, and gain the understanding of how propulsion through the water really works.
