Strategic direction
The Pymble Institute mission of driving thinking forward proudly supports the College’s four strategic pillars through research.
We prioritise research in the domains of Academic, Social, Emotional and Digital Intelligence.
Academic Intelligence
Knowledge for a better world
Learning at Pymble inspires students and staff to explore what matters to them and see themselves in futures they may not have imagined.
Developing the desire for intellectual tenacity and rigorous scholarship, Pymble people think critically, creatively and collaboratively, with commitment to decisive action.
Inspired by open-ended learning experiences, Pymble encourages girls to invest in their own learning, think beyond the immediate and accept the challenge to change their world.
Research projects include:
Literature reviews to support the Teaching and Learning framework
- Global Action Research Collaborative
- Teaching complexity – how teachers manage complexity in the subjects they teach
- Action research projects by staff.
Social Intelligence
Diversity as the path to unity
Pymble students and staff embrace opportunities to learn in collaborative environments where different perspectives are encouraged and valued.
As a school of the Uniting Church, all faiths, beliefs, abilities, identities, backgrounds and cultures are welcome. We value diversity of thought and understand the power of an inclusive and united community.
Developing skills in cultural connectivity, Pymble fosters respectful, resilient and inclusive relationships and harnesses the power of diversity to enrich our worldview.
Research projects include
- Student-developed anti-racism curriculum
- Literature reviews to support the Service framework
- Longitudinal research into the impact of service on Pymble students
- Participating in research on consent education and healthy relationships with The Matilda Centre at the University of Sydney.
"I have loved working with the Pymble Institute to grow my skills to undertake action research in the area of social and emotional learning. I appreciated the opportunity to use data to improve my teaching and empower the girls with the important skills of self awareness and self management"

Emotional Intelligence
Empowered to be courageous
Pymble girls are courageous and determined learners who approach new challenges with a sense of optimism and excitement.
They develop the emotional intelligence and strength of character to thrive in new and unfamiliar situations and inspire others.
Pymble appreciates that character is developed in times of adversity and that we learn to embrace life with humility, gratitude and grace.
Research projects include:
Digital Intelligence
Embracing technology for a positive future
Pymble students and staff are active, responsible and engaged global citizens who harness the power of technology to effect positive change.
They understand the importance of technology to activate human potential, enable connections and make the world a better place for all.
Students are encouraged to be part of, and fuel, the technological revolution; to build, change and co-create the future.
Through developing digital fluency, students and staff cultivate healthy digital habits and are equipped to use technologies in beneficial and sustaining ways.
