Learn to Swim

  • How do I move my child's lesson, mark an absence or pay an invoice?

These tasks are all managed through the Pymble Swimming Parent Portal. When you join, we’ll send a quick-start guide with simple steps. If you need help, contact our Customer Service team at swimming@pymblelc.nsw.edu.au or +61 2 9855 7460.

  • Do I need to re-enrol each term?

No. Your child’s regular weekly booking continues from term to term and is held during NSW Public School holiday breaks, unless you submit a cancellation request by the 21st of the month.

  • What happens if we miss a lesson? How do make-up lessons work?

Mark the absence through the Parent Portal at least two hours before the lesson. Once the missed lesson has passed, a make-up token will be available to use. Tokens can be booked up to 48 hours in advance, subject to availability. Each swimmer can receive up to eight tokens per year.

  • How will I know when my child is ready to progress?

Formal assessments happen in Weeks 1 to 6 of each term and you’ll receive a written report by email. When your child is ready to move up, a Pool Deck Supervisor will contact you to explain the next steps. Progress can also be tracked through the Parent Portal at any time.

  • How big are the classes?

Parent and Child (Starfish/Hermit Crab): 1:7

    Blue Rings and Seahorse: 1:3

    Clownfish, Turtle and Crocodile: 1:4

    Seal: 1:5

    Tiger Sharks: 1:8.

  • What should my child wear?

Fitted swimwear, goggles and a swim cap. Our Learn to Swim pool is heated to 31°C so rash tops, wetsuits and board shorts are not recommended as they restrict movement and technique.

  • What is the best age to start swimming lessons?

We welcome swimmers from walking age (approximately one year) onwards. Our Parent and Child program (Starfish) is designed for very young swimmers and their carers. The earlier children build water confidence, the easier formal stroke learning becomes.

  • Can my child continue into squad swimming after Learn to Swim?

Yes. The Learn to Swim pathway connects naturally into our Squad program for swimmers who complete Tiger Sharks. Entry is based on skill readiness, age and available places. Pymble students have priority access; community swimmers are welcome to enquire. Speak with our team or see the Squads page for more information.

Squads

  • Is the Squad program open to community (non-Pymble) families?

The Pymble Swimming Squad program is designed primarily to support Pymble Ladies’ College students. Community swimmers are welcome to enquire, and entry is assessed on skill readiness, age and available places. Please contact us to discuss your child’s situation.

  • How does my child move from Learn to Swim into squads?

Swimmers who complete Tiger Sharks exit criteria are eligible to be assessed for Mini Squad. A squad coach will evaluate the swimmer and, if there is an appropriate place available, invite them to join. Speak with our Pool Deck Supervisor or contact the team to start the conversation.

  • What is the Knox Pymble Swim Club (KPSC)?

The Knox Pymble Swim Club is the platform Pymble uses to race in competitions. It is affiliated with Swimming New South Wales (SNSW) and Swimming Australia (SAL), and brings together the competitive squads from Pymble and Knox Grammar for racing, camps and tours. All competitive squad swimmers must be KPSC members to race.

  • What is igsa?

Independent Girls’ Schools Association (igsa) Swimming is one of the most prestigious school swimming competitions in NSW. Pymble has a proud history in igsa, winning multiple titles including the most recent championship in 2026. Selection for the igsa team reflects commitment, character and contribution to the program.

  • Are there camps and tours?

Yes. The igsa squad attends a pre-season camp in January. Selected squads are offered an annual performance tour (usually in July or October holidays) to world-class national or international facilities. Details are communicated via the Aquatics Co-ordinator well in advance.

  • Can my child also train at another swim club or program?

Pymble Swimming squads are open only to swimmers who train exclusively within the Pymble Swimming program. This ensures consistent coaching, appropriate workload management, and the strong coach-swimmer relationships that underpin our approach. If you have questions about how this applies to your child, please speak with the team.

Diving

  • How do I find out about the Diving program?

Contact our Customer Service team diving@pymblelc.nsw.edu.au. You can also see our Diving page for an overview of the four diving levels.

  • My child has never tried diving – where do they start?

The Vertical Fun Dive (VFD) program is the entry point for all new divers, regardless of swimming level. VFD focuses on enjoyment and fundamental movement – learning shapes, positions, jumps and entries in a non-competitive environment.

  • How does progression work in diving?

Diving progresses through four levels: Vertical Fun Dive → Learn to Dive → Pathways → Performance.

Progression is based on four pillars: Technique, physical readiness, mental dexterity and coach evaluation. A diver must demonstrate all four before moving to a new skill or level. This careful approach protects safety and builds lasting quality.

Practicalities and facilities

  • How do I get here?

64 Avon Road, Pymble NSW 2073. Enter via Gate 3 off Avon Road.

  • Is this facility open to the public?

Yes. Pymble Swimming welcomes families from both the Pymble Ladies’ College community and the wider community across our Learn to Swim and Holiday Programs, Squads and Diving.

  • My child is a student at Pymble Ladies' College. How does that work?

Pymble students are warmly welcomed and have convenient access to the full program pathway including squad swimming. If you have questions about how school commitments and the swimming program interact, our team is happy to help.

  • What does your staff training involve?

All Pymble Swimming teachers are qualified and accredited. Before teaching independently, every teacher completes a structured onboarding process covering our curriculum, lesson structure, philosophy and expectations. Co-ordinators and Pool Deck Supervisors provide ongoing support and quality oversight throughout each term.

  • What is your photography and filming policy?

To protect the privacy of all swimmers and families, photography and filming are not permitted in the Learn to Swim area. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

  • Do you accept Active Kids vouchers?

Please contact our team to confirm current voucher acceptance.

  • How can I help improve my child's swimming between lessons?

Encourage a positive attitude and celebrate effort and progress. Avoid correcting technique at home – trust your child’s teacher to guide their development. For young children, water confidence during bath time and recreational swims is always helpful.
