Frequently asked questions

  • What sports does Pymble offer for Kindergarten to Year 6?

An extensive range, from team sports like Netball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Touch Football, Water Polo and Volleyball, to individual pursuits including Swimming, Diving, Gymnastics, Athletics and Cross Country, Tennis, Golf, Fencing and Taekwondo, plus niche options like Equestrian, Sailing, Snowsports and Orienteering. We also have a new AFL Development Program.

  • Does my daughter need experience to join?

For most sports, no. Programs like Have a Go @ Saturday Sport, Net Set Go, Junior Foundational Athletics, and the Junior Skills Sessions in Football, Hockey and Touch Football are all designed for complete beginners.

  • What's the difference between the recreational and competitive/selective pathways?

Most of our sports are open enrolment, welcoming every girl, regardless of ability, into skills clinics, foundational programs and Saturday competitions such as igsa Junior Netball, Football and Hockey. A smaller number of advanced pathways sit above these, including Competitive Gymnastics, Performance Diving, our Artistic Gymnastics Team, and selective Tennis squads (Pymble Performance Squad and Junior Talent Hub), which are invitation or trial based.

  • How does my daughter get invited to a selective squad or representative team?

Coaches generally identify talented girls through their participation in our recreational programs and invite them to trial. For sports like Diving, Gymnastics and Tennis, this means progressing from an entry-level class into a Pathways, Performance or Talent Hub program as coaches assess readiness.

  • What is Saturday Sport / igsa Junior competition?

Igsa Junior is our Saturday morning interschool competition, offered across sports including Netball, Football, Hockey, Basketball, Tennis and Water Polo/Flippa Ball for girls in Years 3 to 6. It runs alongside our skills-based training sessions, so girls build the fundamentals during the week before playing competitively on weekends.

  • Are any sports run by outside organisations rather than Pymble coaches?

Yes. Our Rhythmic Gymnastics, AFL Development and Surfing programs are delivered by trusted external partners. All Swimming enquiries and bookings go directly through Pymble Swimming.

  • Does my daughter need her own equipment?

This varies by sport. Most programs require students to purchase their own equipment.

  • When do sports run — during the week, after school, or on weekends?

It depends on the sport. Skills sessions and training typically run during the week (either within the co-curricular block or after school), while igsa and KNA Netball competitions are played on Saturday mornings during the relevant season.

  • What does a sports program cost?

Costs vary by sport, particularly where external providers, specialist venues or equipment hire are involved.

  • Can my daughter play more than one sport?

Yes. Many girls take part in several sports across different seasons or terms. We encourage families to keep an eye on their daughter’s weekly commitment so sport stays enjoyable alongside schoolwork and other activities.
