A CULTURE OF KINDNESS
What began as a vision at the start of the pandemic has since grown into something far bigger. Kate Brown, Head of Junior School, set out to empower children to hold onto their sense of self, joy and hope during a period of profound uncertainty. She called it the kindness revolution. Today, it is a whole-school movement: every student in the Junior School is actively encouraged and supported to show kindness to others, to the environment and to themselves.
“Kindness is a concept young children readily understand. Through kindness, children not only believe, but know they can change the world, and this gifts them the sense of hope they need to flourish in their own world.”

It was this conviction that led to the creation of the Children’s Kindness Convention, launched at Pymble in June 2022. The inaugural event brought together students from 20 schools across Greater Sydney, giving children the opportunity to come together and imagine solutions to global issues through the lens of kindness. The convention has since become an annual event, expanding beyond Sydney to reach schools interstate.
Alongside Pymble’s College values, the kindness program reflects a deep belief that being of service to others is one of the most powerful foundations a young person can build. Through it, our students are not just learning to be kind. They are learning to believe they can change the world.
