On Wednesday 10 December, the world for young people in Australia will dramatically change when the social media ban comes into effect. Meta already has started removing children’s accounts from their platforms. At our Junior and Secondary School Speech Days this week, our Principal Dr Kate Hadwen shared some reflections, along with advice for students and families. “Change is hard, and it would be simplistic and unrealistic to think this move to make 16 the minimum age for engagement in social media is not going to have an enormous impact on our young people. “Pymble supports an educative process, built on listening to student voice and working respectfully with all parties, to help create positive outcomes. We believe it’s a respectful, listening and learning approach. “To support our girls and their families as they navigate this adjustment, we have prepared a guide to the new social media law which we are delighted to share today. The guide contains handy tips for students and families to assist with the transition. “As we approach next Wednesday, let’s do this together, with realistic strategies and a readiness to offer support as and when it is needed”. We are #PymbleProud of our Junior School writers Jing H, Sarah K and Claire H, who have been recognised and awarded Highly Commended or Winners in the national Pens Against Poverty Competition, and who attended the official award ceremony in Canberra today.   Through their thoughtful poems and stories, these young advocates have used their voices to shine a light on those less fortunate, reminding us of the impact that powerful words can have.   Congratulations, girls. The Junior School has officially launched the DREAM Diploma. This unique opportunity will engage students in a series of learning activities that enable them to DARE, REACH, EXPERIENCE, ADVOCATE and MASTER. The DREAM Diploma is designed to encourage perseverance, character, service and entrepreneurship. Guest speakers Gavin McCormack, renowned author and founder of UpSchool, and Maria Sykes, CEO of the Jane Goodall Institute Australia, joined Head of Junior School Kate Brown to launch the Diploma for Year 5 and Year 6 students commencing in 2026.
